SITA-ResourceCo signs 15-year offtake agreement

SITA-ResourceCo has signed a 15-year offtake agreement to supply 75,000 tonnes per annum of process engineered fuel (PEF) to the Adelaide Brighton Cement kiln in Birkenhead, South Australia.

SITA-ResourceCo, a joint venture between SITA Environmental Solutions (SITA) and ResourceCo, operates Australia’s first PEF manufacturing plant. The alternative fuel advanced resource recovery facility produces a high calorific fuel from commercial & industrial (C&I) and construction & demolition (C&D) feedstocks that would otherwise have been sent to landfill.

The agreement demonstrates the commercial viability of cutting-edge resource recovery initiatives, and illustrates to businesses and the community who want to make an environmental difference that alternatives to landfill disposal are available.

SITA’s State General Manager for South Australia, Greg Panigas, states: “This is a fantastic outcome for SITA-ResourceCo in Adelaide and for the Australian resource recovery industry in general. The deal will provide a platform for the future development of PEF manufacturing at SITA-ResourceCo facilities around the country, which will support state government targets for the diversion of valuable resources from landfill disposal.”

“The manufacturing process for PEF diverts approximately 95% of C&I and C&D feedstock waste streams, while also recovering valuable metals as well as sand and aggregates for re-use options such as road construction,” says Simon Brown, Managing Director, ResourceCo.

The joint venture partners have had an ongoing relationship with Adelaide Brighton Cement for the past eight years.

SITA-ResourceCo plans to construct similar alternative fuel manufacturing facilities around the country.
