First Gold Partner for NSW Sustainability Advantage program

Tuesday, 08 February, 2011

Minister for Climate Change and the Environment Frank Sartor has congratulated the business processing and outsourcing company Converga as the first organisation to be recognised as a Gold Partner of the NSW Government’s Sustainability Advantage program for business.

Sartor said: “Gold status recognises Converga’s steady and progressive integration of sustainability into its operations and shows that delivering environmental and bottom line goals go hand in hand.

“They are one of more than 480 participating organisations that are expected to make $42.5 million in financial savings and save 83,000 tonnes of carbon pollution.”

Converga has also developed innovative sustainability services for their clients, such as showing that changing from paper to digital invoicing commonly saves 100 tonnes of carbon emissions for every one million invoices.

Sustainability Advantage is run by the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water NSW (DECCW) to help medium to large organisations understand sustainability and strengthen their environmental performance.

Converga CEO Brian Roberts said proactive and continuous sustainability improvements have been good for the business, which grew 11% last financial year. “Environmental sustainability is now part of our way of doing business,” he said.

“Sustainability is considered whenever we make a large purchase or propose a new facility, for example, and the savings benefits are flowing through to our customers.

“DECCW has ensured the program has been relevant and specific to our needs, resources and level of commitment.”

There are five levels of recognition in Sustainability Advantage - Member, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum Partner. Converga was the first organisation to achieve both Bronze and Silver Partner status.
