RET draft legislation
The Government has released exposure draft legislation for the expanded Renewable Energy Target (RET) which will allow for the creation of 'Solar Credits' for small-scale solar, wind and hydro systems installed from 9 June 2009.
The RET is planned to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy technologies such as wind, biomass and geothermal. The expanded national RET scheme also includes Solar Credits which will assist with the up-front costs of installing small-scale renewable energy systems, including household solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
The government intends to put in place legislation to implement the expanded target design by mid-2009, with new targets to commence from 2010.
