Tenix awarded Nambour STP upgrade

Tenix has been awarded a $40 million contract by Unitywater to design, construct and commission a major upgrade to the Nambour Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).

The Sunshine Coast is one of the fastest-growing regions of Australia, with population in Unitywater’s service area expected to increase from 750,000 in 2012 to more than one million by 2031. Unitywater has commissioned the upgrade to meet the needs of the growing local population and to improve the plant’s effluent quality.

Tenix CEO Ross Taylor has welcomed the opportunity to work with Unitywater and to demonstrate Tenix’s end-to-end capabilities to design and deliver state-of-the-art treatment plants.

“We will also support the local economy through using local contractors wherever practical to provide construction, materials and associated services,” said Ross.

To deliver the project, Tenix is drawing on its considerable local experience on similar projects in Queensland. The company is currently delivering a number of similar plants and has recently designed and built a similar plant in inner Brisbane.

Tenix’s design is for a membrane bioreactor (MBR) plant including inlet works, twin bioreactor, MBR filtration, biosolids treatment, centrifuge dewatering, and odour control and septage receival station.

The Nambour STP is located about 15 km west of Maroochydore on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. It services residential, commercial and industrial users in Nambour, Woombye, Palmwoods, Yandina and Eumundi.

The upgraded plant is scheduled to be operational in late 2014.
