Alliance to provide energy saving for wastewater treatment market

Thursday, 09 April, 2009

Atlas Copco and ITT Corporation have entered into a worldwide strategic alliance, providing significant energy-saving solutions for municipal wastewater treatment plants. Energy-efficient blowers from Atlas Copco's oil-free air division are now being jointly offered with ITT aeration and mixer technologies to reduce energy costs by an average 40% in the secondary treatment phase.

The ITT Water & Wastewater business has determined that 55% of energy costs at treatment plants are incurred by aeration blowers. This led to the decision to collaborate with a blower manufacturer that specified energy efficiency in its core design. The agreement was signed between Atlas Copco Airpower n.v and ITT Water & Wastewater AB.

Rollout of the joint initiative has already occurred in Europe and is now proceeding in North America, Asia and Middle East/Africa. The worldwide market for aeration technologies, coupled to energy-efficient blowers, is considerable.

With its knowledge of energy-efficiency in blower control, Atlas Copco will also support ITT Waste & Wastewater with plant audits, resulting in further optimisation of installations and operations.
