Royal Philips Electronics has launched its 12 W Master LED bulb which is a light-emitting diode (LED) replacement for a 60 W incandescent light bulb. Business users, particularly hospitality industry professionals and facility managers, will now have an LED alternative to the most commonly used incandescent bulb.
The bulb is claimed to save up to 80% of energy and last 25 times longer than its predecessor. It uses an innovative design and remote phosphor technology to deliver the same soft white light and shape that business users are familiar with in an incandescent. Through extended life and reduced energy and maintenance costs, the bulb has the potential to save on electricity costs for businesses. For every 1000 60 W incandescent light bulbs replaced with LED bulbs, there is claimed to be a saving of approximately $13,300 in energy costs based on 4 h of use per lamp per day at 19 cents per kW/h. Furthermore, the lamp has a rated life of 25,000 h, as opposed to a standard 60 W incandescent bulb which is rated at about 1000 h.
The lamp was launched in the US and Europe early 2010 and according to Philips the uptake has been positive. The price is expected to retail in Australia at approximately AU$60.00.
