Magellan Power’s Solar Smoother is suitable for retrofitting to the DC side of a standard residential rooftop solar installation. The smoothing device provides back-up power to the grid while the generators ramp up and down, reducing the long-term wear and tear of the equipment.
The smoother uses high-current lithium batteries as the storage elements. It connects these in parallel to the solar array using a bidirectional DC-DC converter to manage and smooth the incoming PV power flow, stabilising it for use.
The batteries have a high charge/discharge rate and good cyclic characteristics. The lithium ensures that they aren’t compromised by the heavy workload.
Features include: four-quadrant, ruggedised IGBT-based bidirectional inverter; DSP and microcontroller-based; integrated cell battery management system, supporting lithium-phosphate batteries; available in single-phase and three-phase; communication with external SCADA/network/PC via RS232, RS485, DNP3, TCP/IP, WEB; optional MPPT solar charge controller.
