VPLS (virtual private LAN service) is a type of transport VPN that allows the connection of multiple sites in a single Ethernet domain over a service provider managed MPLS network. From the enterprise perspective, all sites appear to be connected to a single LAN and could be viewed as an extension to their existing corporate LAN infrastructure.

By leveraging MPLS Quality of Service (QoS) and traffic engineering strengths, VPLS meets the requirements of various applications and the business priorities of the enterprise.
