Sustainable hair foiling competition announced

Start-up company Refoil has partnered with haircare brand De Lorenzo’s ASPYA program for the inaugural ‘Foilest Challenge’ - a competition aimed at reducing foil waste in hair salons.

Foiling is said to be the most popular professional salon service, but it is also one of the most wasteful, with foil comprising 50% of a hair salon’s waste bin. Only 1% of salons recycle their foil waste, amounting to over 1 million kilograms of foil directed to landfill.

The Foilest Challenge is asking participating salons to build innovative and business-minded ways to market sustainable foiling services in the salon. De Lorenzo is working exclusively with ASPYA salons to instil environmentally sustainable work practices in its partner salons.

“Proudly Australian, we take a strong interest in being aware of the environmental footprint of our industry,” said De Lorenzo co-director Anthony de Lorenzo. “Along with our locally sourced ingredients and strict no-animal-testing policy, we partnered with Refoil to continue the expansion of our environmental philosophy.”

Running for six weeks from 6 October to 14 November 2014, the competition will award The Foilest, The Junior Foilest and the Best Salon Marketing Campaign from participating ASPYA salons.
