Olympus commits to OzHarvest

Olympus Australia has established a long-term commitment to food charity OzHarvest. The charity was one of two selected by Olympus staff members to be supported by the company.

“By choosing two charities, we can channel resources to them so that our impact is more significant,” said Olympus Australia Communications Manager Oliver Clarke. “Our view is that we are partnered with them for the long term.”

Olympus recently supported OzHarvest’s ‘Think.Eat.Save’ event, held in July across Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Newcastle. OzHarvest founder and CEO Ronni Kahn said the aim of the event was to bring attention to the disturbing amount of food wasted in Australia and around the world - approximately 1.3 billion tonnes, or one-third food produced for human consumption, every year.

“Our modern-day challenge is to create a sustainable food culture that can be shared by all, where we waste less at all levels of food production and distribution,” Kahn said.

At the Melbourne function, held in Federation Square, Olympus Marketing Coordinator Michelle Mani and four of her colleagues helped set up the serving tents, distribute soup and desserts to more than 1300 people and clean up at the end of the day.

Olympus and OzHarvest staff and some of the food served to the 1300 people in Federation Square.

Olympus will participate in regular team-building events with OzHarvest from now on, along with the Think.Eat.Save and CEO Cookout events each year.
