NSW volunteers call for waste management suggestions
Thursday, 08 March, 2007
Renew NSW is calling for suggestions on how to change attitudes towards waste and suitable waste management and resource recovery projects from public, private and government sectors.
The voluntary group recently changed its name from the Regional Waste Forum and says every year, each Australian generates an average of 1000 kg of industrial, commercial and domestic waste.
The group says the only way to manage this huge amount of waste and stop it from ending up in landfills is to change attitudes towards rubbish.
Renew is supported by the NSW Department of Environment and Conservation and provides solutions to waste management in rural and regional NSW through a framework of volunteer organisations.
"Renew NSW focuses on finding solutions to waste issues that provide improved environmental outcomes and give savings to these areas through cost sharing," chairman, Stephen Sykes said.
Comments and suggestions on initiatives in waste management and resource recovery projects can be made at the Renew NSW website.
