Caltex Australia has launched a version of its 2006 annual report online by emailing 5000 of its shareholders for the first time with a link instead of mailing a book.

Caltex asked all 22,000 shareholders last year if they would elect to receive the annual report online instead of a traditional printed copy, of which 5000 chose to do so.

Managing director and CEO, Des King said the initiative has reduced the company's requirement for paper, saved on printing and postage, and provided an opportunity to produce a leading-edge online report.

"The online 2006 annual report can be viewed on different internet browsers, is easy to navigate and does not require users to have fast internet speeds to download," King said.

"In researching the best way to present the online annual report, Caltex looked at how other companies did their reports. Most still put the report up as a PDF file which can take a long time to download."

Features of the online report include interactive elements to aid accessibility for quick and efficient navigation, including both standard and advanced search capabilities. A single section of the report can be printed, with an option to print only the text in black to save on paper and ink that would otherwise be used for printing photographs and illustrations.
